2017 MATE ROV International

Explorer class 2nd Place



Monterey Bay Regional ROV competition and took home the title of "Overall Champion." Our team strove for success, and this led our team to have the honor of competing in MATE's international competition held in Houston, Texas. This international competition was a huge learning experience and the team was met with great success as we placed second in the Ranger class. We will be advancing to the Explorer class for the 2017 season, competing at the MATE ROV international competition  in Long Beach, California.

The Sea Sweepers ROV team has been successful in the pool for eight years now. We started out with four boys in fifth grade who were inexperienced, yet interested in robotics. Since then, we have achieved first place overall in the scout, navigator, and ranger classes in the regional M.A.T.E. competition. In 2015, our team won our regional competition and reached international in Newfoundland, Canada. In the 2016 international competition in Houston, the Sea Sweepers placed second overall and earned first place in the product presentation category.

Over the years, we have learned many types of important life-skills. These include knowledge of electronics, the importance of teamwork, and business interactions. We entered the ranger class with high hopes. On April 30th, 2016, the Sea Sweepers ROV team won the
